Do you know the struggle to get a job with a little to no experience or a college degree? Well I’ll just let you know what I’ve been dealing with here lately. I’m 26 and I don’t have much experience in anything but customer service. Every time I had a baby I would stop working between 6 and 18 months. Which was awesome for my kids but it’s been a pain on my resume. It’s empty and quite disappointing. I look at it and get upset with myself for having such a weak resume.
I had an interview a few weeks ago and I never heard back from them, so I called them. At first I was devastated, I was thinking “how can a fast food restaurant turn me down for lack of experience, it’s fast food!” And then I thought about how I approached the interview. Considering I haven’t worked in damn near a year and it’s been even longer since I had an interview, I realized I just wasn’t ready. I wasn’t dressed right and I wasn’t confident at all. I was a nervous wreck and I believed it showed.
Fast forward to this week, I had another interview and I finally fixed my grimy resume. I walked in with my confidence turned to the max and with my head up, I was definitely ready. I walked out feeling like I mastered it and I did. This job accepted my lack of experience and is going to train me and the pay is seven dollars higher than the fast food place.
The point of this post is to let others hear me ramble and to let others know your resume matters, confidence matters, and your attitude when you’re approaching things matters. Gather as much experience that you can while you’re in a work place, go back to school, go back to your job after having a baby even if it’s a few days a week, and please don’t let your lack of experience stop you from trying.
