My favorite childhood memory was my mom checking me out of school to go have a picnic at the River Park in Chattanooga, TN. I remember us riding down the road with the windows down listening to Mary J. Blige, moms had every CD, Mary J. was her favorite. I remember her pulling a really thick black and grey army blanket out her tiny car and she had a cooler full of snacks and sandwiches. I remember us just sitting by the water enjoying the moment in life. I remember her bright smile just glowing because I was having a ball. I remember asking her why we were there and why she check me out of school and her response was “just because”.
It was moments like that, that made me want to be the best mom like she was growing up. It’s moments like that sticks with me everyday that makes me strive to be the best mom to my kids. I’m so thankful for the memories I have with my mom. I’m thankful for everything we went through together. I miss her daily but I’m glad I got the time that I got with her.
